April 19th - Look at this great group of Girl Scouts from Troop 02446. They were enjoying our self-guided tour at the SALT Block Garden. Thank you, Terri Sullivan!
May - Thanks to my our buddy Joseph, HGH Junior Ambassador and his wonderful mom Danielle for harvesting the kale for the Soup Kitchen.
May - Radishes were delivered to the Hickory Soup Kitchen. Thanks to Marcus Miller and Rick Slaven for harvesting. Thanks to Michael Willard and Kathy Tiffee for maintaining the SALT Block Garden.

March - Thanks Danielle and Joseph for helping me today harvest all the cabbage and kale at the SALT Block Garden for the Hickory Soup Kitchen. We took over 270 pounds to the Kitchen. Ready to start planting for spring.

• September 30 - The guys from GKN Sinter Metals put our new corner braces on the garden boxes today. Great job!!! — at SALT Block Foundation. Thanks Kathy Tiffee for taking the pictures for HGH.
• September 15 - Worked hard the last two weeks at the Farm, Soup Kitchen and SALT Block Gardens. Thanks Joe, Joseph and his Mom, Michael and his family, Michele, Chris, Josh, Kathy and Marcus for helping.
• September 1 - Great day with Josh, Chris and Marcus at the Salt Block HGH Garden. We picked beans, eggplant, okra, tomatoes and kale today. Removed our secret plant (tobacco), corn, tomatoes, kale and cut the okra. We have been blessed.
• August 26 - Kathy Tiffee, Savannah Miller and Renee' Abernethy-Miller had a great time with HGH Rock Painting Day at Conover Farmers Market. Lots of fun with the kids and adults. Check out all the beautiful rocks. We will be hiding them at the SALT Block HGH Gardens in Hickory.
• August 26 - When we Harvested the Potatoes this year we found one
shaped like a Heart! Trust in God with all your Heart! Proverbs 3:5.

June 19th - Marcus Miller, Founder of HGH delivered some cabbage to our friends at the Hickory Soup Kitchen this morning. Came from SALT Block Gardens.
May 30th - Made another stop by the SALT Block Garden and was able to deliver beets and radishes to our friends at the HSK. If it were me...I'd roast the beets and then add them to the sautéed tops! Yum, yum, yum! For the whole recipe go to RECIPES under EDUCATION.
May 17th - Marcus got into the garden at the SALT Block early this morning so I could share some more pics of the harvest coming in. More lettuce, 25 lbs. of radishes and some kale...someone at the Hickory Soup Kitchen is going to be eating FRESH salad today!
On Saturday, April 14th we had our Annual Planting Day at the SALT Block - it was an awesome success! We had volunteers from GKN Sinter Metals, Raising Roots Farm, and others all joining our HGH Volunteers in making this day go off without a hitch. This is what community looks like! We had fun, and I even had one volunteer say, when asked if she was having a good time, she looked at me and said, "I haven't quit smiling since I arrived!" It warms my heart that we at HGH can share this special feeling with those who take time out of their busy lives to come out and volunteer. Afterwards, we all took time to fellowship and enjoy a cookout with brats, and covered dishes (thanks Michael Moore and Daniel from Liazzos of Hickory). I want to extend a huge thank you to Walter Pinkston and his family along with Mitzi Gellman from Habitat for Humanity of Catawba Valley for all the awesome photos.
August 20, 2017 was Lenoir-Rhyne Volunteer Day - 200+ incoming freshman came out in force all over Hickory. We were fortunate to have a group of these amazing young people in the garden for a couple of hours. THEY WERE AWESOME! It is always a joy working the garden with so much positive energy flowing. From preparing the beds, to laying out rows, to planting new crops - they did it ALL! We are blessed at HGH and if you would like to participate in the fun of breathing new life into the world - COME JOIN US! I would like to give a shout out to Kimberly, Joshua, Christina, Cassie, Landra, Angel, Stefan, Davion, and our HGH volunteers (Especially Joe Long) for all your efforts. Thanks and I hope to see you again soon!

August 12, 2017 was GKN Sinter Metals Volunteer Day - I want to say, "Thank you" to a great group of people from GKN Sinter Metals in Conover! We are excited about the possibilities that this partnership offers and we look forward to working with crowd again very soon. The rain blew through this morning and everyone showed up on time to rework some of the beds and plant some fall crops - carrots, radishes, collard greens, and a nice salad mix of kale, mustard, and turnip greens. During the founding phase of HGH we wanted to create a garden that would become a meeting place for those in the community. This idea was grounded in our Agri-OUTREACH concept: Developing Outreach Opportunities that use Agri-CULTURE to reach those in need. Our thoughts were if we could gather people together, there would be countless opportunities to discuss the larger issues involving the needy. Never in our wildest dreams could we have guessed that the SALT Block Foundation which is already a centralized meeting place, would have a similar vision, and that we could partner with them to make this vision a reality.
January 2017 - Hickory Greenway Harvest is in the planning stages of a presentation garden on the grounds of the SALT Block in downtown Hickory. The garden will include raised, training and flower beds. It will be a beautiful addition to the complex and provide educational and therapeutic opportunities.
